The beautiful city of Konstanz on Lake Constance is definitely one of them. The largest city in the Lake Constance region, which spans four countries, is located directly on the Swiss border. It captivates visitors with its historical sights and proximity to the water. Whether you are in the area…
… Whether you want to go cycling or hiking, or explore Constance’s old town while shopping and sightseeing – everything is possible in Constance. The Council of Constance, located directly at the harbour, is a special highlight. Originally a warehouse, it gained worldwide fame as the venue for the conclave to elect Pope Martin V in 1417. Today, it is a popular photo opportunity for tourists from all over the world, who particularly enjoy visiting the city in summer.
However, Lake Constance is the centrepiece of the city. You can enjoy a great view of the water, the harbour of Constance and the Alps from the promenade on Seestraße. Here you can stroll along the promenade to your heart’s content and admire the elaborately designed Art Nouveau villas.
Extra tip: The rear part of the waterfront promenade is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. The steps leading down to the lake are popular with locals as a meeting place or access to the water.
Another very popular place to swim is the Konstanz Hörnle. With a shoreline length of 600 metres, the Constance lido is the largest on Lake Constance. It is located at the end of the bay in the immediate vicinity of the Lake Constance Stadium. From here, you have a unique view of the Obersee and the Überlinger See. It is particularly busy here in summer. In the family area, children can enjoy a water playground with climbing frames, a play ship, a hanging bridge and a balancing area. There is also plenty on offer for sporty bathers, with beach volleyball and badminton courts, table tennis tables and chess boards.
Experience the Alemannic carnival in Constance during the crazy fifth season. ‘Ho Narro!’ is the cry in the streets, at the carnival balls and in the wine bars. This applies to the period between 6 January and ‘Schmotzigen Donnerstag’ (Fat Thursday) at the end of carnival.
Konstanz is a city with a fascinating combination of historical architecture, beautiful nature and lively customs. This mixture captivates every visitor and guarantees an unforgettable city break.
