St. Peter’s Cathedral is the tallest building in Bautzen’s silhouette, which is rich in towers. It dates back to 1217/18, the year in which the collegiate chapter of St. Peter’s was founded. The choir of the building was completed in 1221. Some parts from this time, such as the portal, are still preserved. The cathedral was built in its present form in 1430 and has been restored several times in its long history. Today it is one of the most important church buildings in Saxony.
