If you want to go where life pulsates in Cologne, you have to go to Brüsseler Platz in the Belgian Quarter. In Cologne’s trendy district, many trendy pubs, cafés, bars, boutiques, galleries and theatres can be found around the central square. From 2005 to 2011 there was also a reading stage on Brüsseler Platz. The landmark of the district is the Catholic parish church of St. Michael, which rises on the plane-lined square. Like all Cologne churches, it faces the cathedral and was built in 1894 by master builder Hermann Josef Stübben. The Brüsseler Platz as it looks today was laid out in 1981 and 1982.
