The Eiserne Steg (Iron Bridge) is an impressive steel bridge on the banks of the Main River in Frankfurt that plays a major role in shaping the panorama of the metropolis. The structure was built in 1869 as a symbol of the belief in progress in the industrial age – this is visible in the curved metal arches. The well-known monument was destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt just one year after the end of the war. In the mid-90s, the bridge was extensively renovated. Anyone walking across the bridge has a unique view of the Frankfurt skyline and the Museumsufer. Other popular attractions are the restaurant boats with various pedal and rowing boat rentals and the Frankfurt flea market, which takes place every second Saturday.
