The old town of Freinsheim is a real gem in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim. The late Gothic town wall with its numerous towers and gates, which is still almost completely preserved today, is characteristic of the townscape. Apart from its remarkable length of about 1000 metres, the most striking feature is the front gate to the iron gate with flanking towers and the Electoral Palatinate coat of arms. Because of its well-preserved historic town centre, Freinsheim is also known as the “Palatine Rothenburg”. This refers to the world-famous Franconian town. Other highlights on a tour of Freinsheim include the old main church on the market square, the former castle and the ruins of a Romanesque chapel.
