The Port of Hamburg is located on the Lower Elbe and is the largest seaport in Germany and the third largest in Europe after the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp. You can get a good overview of the port district and the port on the Grand Harbour Tour. The world-famous Landungsbrücken (landing stages) are the gateway to the Port of Hamburg – a popular attraction in Hamburg’s harbour district. The floating landing stage is 700 metres long and the first pontoons were built as early as 1839. While they were once used to store coal, the Landungsbrücken are now used as a pier for harbour tours and ferries. The entrance to the Old Elbe Tunnel is also located here.
