Visit four different castles within a 10-minute walk – that’s possible in the small town of Neckarsteinach in the Bergstrasse district of Hesse. The fortresses are a symbol of the power and wealth of the rulers of the time. It is disputed among experts whether the Hinterburg or the Vorderburg is the oldest of the four fortifications, two of which are now privately owned. At the beginning of the 1960s, the ruins of the Hinterburg were restored and are now open to visitors. The view from the tower’s viewing platform is particularly worth seeing. Extra tip: A flashlight is very handy for the climb through the very dark tower.
