Just like the Christkindlesmarkt, it simply belongs to Nuremberg: the Kaiserburg, which rises majestically above the city on a steep sandstone cliff. You can visit almost the entire complex on a guided tour. Or you can simply enjoy the fantastic view over the city from the viewing platform of Nuremberg’s landmark. The imperial castle was first mentioned in 1050 when it was considered an important base for imperial and domestic power politics during the time of the Salian and Hohenstaufen kings and emperors. In the following centuries, the castle continued to stand for the power of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and the important role of the imperial city of Nuremberg.
