A piece of Chile in Swabia

The square used to be called “Auf dem Haigst”, but since 2006 it has been called “Santiago de Chile Square”. The reason: In October of that year, the then President of the Republic of Chile, Dr Michelle Bachelet, visited Stuttgart. In addition to an unusual name, the square in Stuttgart-Degerloch has even more to offer: a spectacular view over the city centre and three South American sculptures. These include a large Moai sculpture from Easter Island, a bust of Chilean Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral and a memorial stone made of stone from the Maipo Valley. Extra tip: You can admire the view from the Stuttgart rack railway on the way to Santiago de Chile Square.
