What can you see in Bad Wimpfen
Explore the sights of Bad Wimpfen
Bad Wimpfen Old Town is the ideal starting point for tracing the history of the Kaiserpfalz. Thanks to its location on the Castle Road, you can reach numerous Staufer castles and palaces from Bad Wimpfen in no time at all – including fantastic views over the Neckar Valley and the surrounding vineyards. During a visit to Guttenberg Castle, you can experience the historic walls live on a Staufer guided tour and marvel at a flight demonstration by the German Griffin Observatory. But Bad Wimpfen itself also has plenty to see. These include the Blue Tower of Bad Wimpfen, the town’s landmark. As one of the three keeps of the former royal palace, the tower dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. A former Staufer defence tower, also known as the Red Tower, takes its name from the former red tiled roof, which was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War. The tower was intended as a refuge for the emperor or king in the event of an attack. Bad Wimpfen’s sights also include the Bad Wimpfen monastery. Idyllically situated on the Neckar, the former Benedictine monastery now serves as a spiritual education and event centre.
