The Gothic stepped gables are visible from afar – but this architectural style is not the only one to be discovered in Aulendorf Castle. Picturesquely situated on a hill above the Schussen River, the representative building impresses with five different style periods, which indicate the frequent conversions and extensions over the course of the last centuries. In addition to the remains of the castle complex from the 13th century, the half-timbered house built in 1480 is still recognizable. After being converted into a late Gothic residential castle in the 16th century, Schloss Aulendorf was then transformed into a representative aristocratic residence with a neoclassical showcase facade in the course of the 18th century.
