The Tiergarten is located between the zoo and the Brandenburg Gate in the centre of Berlin. Three kilometres wide and one kilometre deep, it looks like a green island. The park has its historical roots at the end of the 17th century when Elector Frederick III had the former hunting grounds turned into a “pleasure park for the people”. Later, between 1833 and 1838, the Tiergarten was transformed into a classic English public park. If you want to take a break from visiting the nearby sights, the large meadows and shade trees provide the ideal space. Among other sights, the Victory Column forms a prominent place in the park.
