Located in central Hesse, Braunfels Castle dates back to the 13th century and was initially used as a protective castle. In the course of the 14th century, ring walls with defense towers and ramparts were added. In the following centuries, frequent changes in the external appearance of the castle followed: first, Braunfels Castle was rebuilt by Count Heinrich Trajektin after the destruction of the 30 Years War and the fire in 1679. In the 17th and 18th centuries it became a Baroque residence and then in the 19th century it was renovated in the Neo-Gothic style. Today the castle with its romantic towers and oriels is a popular location for weddings and meetings.
