Braunfels Old Town

Medieval old town and castle complex

Braunfels is known for its romantic market square, surrounded by well-preserved timber-framed houses and the imposing castle complex. Braunfels Castle served as the ancestral seat of the Count of Solms from 1384, with the monument first mentioned as early as 1246. Today, you can explore the historic grounds either with a guided tour and museum visit or relax in a welcoming cafe in the courtyard. The ensemble of the medieval old town and the castle complex offers a variety of possibilities for exploring.
