Brenz Castle in Sontheim was first mentioned in 1340 when the castle of the robber barons Güssen was destroyed by the Augsburgs. Only the Pallas, the residential building of the castle, remained after the 30-year war. In the course of time, this became the Renaissance castle Brenz, which came into the possession of the Württemberg dukes at the beginning of the 17th century. Brenz Castle has had a very eventful history. After being the residence of the duke’s mistress from 1727 to 1731, it was acquired by the municipality of Brenz in 1847 and used as a school and town hall. Today it houses a museum of local history.
