Dankwarderode Castle is a Saxon lowland castle in the heart of Brunswick. Especially the romantic archways and the backdrop of the wood-framed houses let the eye wander over the whole castle square. While the castle long served as the residence of the dukes of Brunswick, it now houses the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, which displays the many treasures that have accumulated over the centuries. On the castle square itself, the Braunschweig State Theater offers a diverse program. The open-air stage resembles a wooden colosseum and unfolds a very special charm between the old brick walls.
