Alt Eberstein Castle was built as the seat of the Counts of Eberstein on a steeply sloping rock above the spa town of Baden-Baden. From the 13th century onwards, the wealthy Counts of Eberstein were displaced by the Margraves of Baden, so that Alt Eberstein Castle also became their property. Today you can visit the ruins of the castle and enjoy the unique view into the Rhine valley and as far as the Black Forest. Hikers are best off parking at the small forest parking lot in Ebersteinburg – a district of Baden-Baden. From here, a beautiful hiking trail leads to the ruin, where you can take a break in the restaurant there.
