It rises high above the old town of Cochem and the Moselle valley on a mighty rock: the medieval Reichsburg Cochem with its beautiful oriels and battlements. After the castle was severely destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession, the Berlin commercial councillor Louis Ravené undertook the elaborate restoration and reconstruction in the neo-Gothic style in the 19th century. On multilingual guided tours of the castle, visitors can marvel at the magnificent interiors, such as the knights’ hall, dining room, hunting room and bower. Rustic knights’ banquets are held here every Friday and Saturday, and a traditional medieval castle festival is held on the first weekend in August. Wedding couples can also book the picturesque setting of the former castle chapel for their civil wedding ceremony.
