In the middle of Detmold’s old town is the Princely Residence Palace, built in the Weser Renaissance style. It was built from the remains of the old castle, which already stood on the same site in the 14th century. During the regular guided tours, you can see quite a few things, except for the rooms used by the princely family itself: The Red Salon with its lavish ceiling paintings and stucco decorations, the Hall of Ancestors with the ancestral gallery of the princely family, the Elisabeth Hall, the Hunting Room with a collection of hunting trophies and hunting weapons from the 17th to 19th centuries, the King’s Room and the Flag Room with historical tapestries and the oldest Lippe flag from 1651.
