Bridge over the Breitstrum

The Krämerbrücke in Erfurt, Thuringia, is one of the city’s best-known buildings and connects Benediktsplatz in the old town with Wenigemarkt in the east of the old town. The bridge over the river Gera, which is called Breitstrom at this point, is considered one of the city’s landmarks. The special feature of this architectural monument is that the footbridge is continuously built with half-timbered houses on both sides. This makes it the only bridge in Europe to be built in this way. The 32 houses contain numerous shops selling antiques and handicrafts. Erfurt’s Krämerbrücke is by far one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations.
