Record-breaking coloured stalactites

The Saalfeld Fairy Grottos are listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the “most colourful show caves in the world”. Germany’s most famous show mine was created here in 1914 from a former mine and attracts numerous visitors every year with its colourful stalactites. The impressive caves can be marvelled at on informative guided tours, including a special tour for children. Also worth seeing are the “Grottoneum” adventure museum, which opened in 2011, and the fountain hall, which was inaugurated in 1937. The “Fairy World” play and adventure area has also been set up for children. In addition to the tourist purpose, the fairy caves are also used as a healing gallery for speleotherapy or cave therapy as a supplement to conventional medicine for respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchitis as well as skin diseases and allergies.
