Frankenberg’s old town in Nordessen, also called Philipp Soldan Town after the famous Renaissance artist, impresses visitors with a unique combination of modern lifestyle and historical cultural assets. Linking the upper and lower markets, Frankenberg’s town hall and market hall with its numerous oriels and pointed towers is a real gem. The Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), which was built in its present form in 1286, also characterises the silhouette of Frankenberg’s old town. The former monastery of St. Georgenberg with the Frankenberg Monastery Museum and the stone house on Frankenberg Obermarkt, built around 1249 for the town council, are also eye-catchers in the old town.
