The Gerbermühle in Frankfurt am Main is located in the Oberrad district, directly on the left bank of the Main. The former water mill was probably built in 1520 and later used for grinding grain. It belonged to the Wasserhof, a fortified estate in the marshy area between the Main and Oberrad. Due to the documented visits of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1814 and 1815, the Gerbermühle was listed as a cultural monument by the state of Hesse. In this respect, it is also attributed a certain significance in literary history. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Frankfurt Gerbermühle has been home to a restaurant that is popular with numerous day-trippers.
