Right next to the town hall is certainly the most curious building in Fritzlar – the Spitzenhäuschen. Today, the very crooked house houses the tourist information office, the archive as well as the city marketing. The oldest building in town, which was originally used as a grocer’s house, can be visited on guided tours. Especially on the upper floor you should not miss the elaborate ornamented painting of the ceiling in Renaissance style. The warped exterior of the Fritzlaer Spitzenhäusch is due to a structural intervention in 1440. At that time, two basement walls were removed. The fact that the north wall of the building only sank and did not collapse was pure luck.
