Germany's oldest official residence

The town hall of the historic cathedral and imperial city of Fritzlar officially holds a German record: it is the oldest official building in Germany mentioned in a document. It has been used continuously as the town hall of Fritzlar since 1109. Even today, the current town administration is still based here. An eye-catcher on the façade of the town hall is a stone relief of the town’s patron saint, St. Martin, dating from 1441. The Fritzlaer town hall blends harmoniously into the historical setting of the carefully restored town houses from the 15th to 17th centuries, which are located on the market square, and is well worth a visit on a tour of Fritzlar.
