There is a reason why Hamburg’s Elbe beach in Övelgönne is so popular with Hamburg residents and visitors alike. Here you can not only sunbathe, go for a walk and enjoy the good sea air. Joggers, walkers and cyclists also like to use this place for their sporting activities. Barbecues are also allowed at designated places – provided that you take your rubbish back with you. In addition, you can camp in certain places near the beach. There is another special sight directly on the Elbe beach: the erratic boulder “Der Alte Schwede” (The Old Swede). The 217-ton stone was found during dredging work on the Elbe in 1999.
