Cultural monument with exceptional architecture

An absolute eye-catcher in the port of Hamburg is the Elbphilharmonie, also affectionately known as “Elphi” by the people of Hamburg. Already during the construction phase, the concert hall, which was completed in November 2016 and is now a new landmark in Hamburg, was a much-noticed attraction. The architecturally very impressive building is said to be reminiscent of sails, water waves, icebergs or a quartz crystal in its design. In addition, the concert hall on the edge of HafenCity is known for its exceptional acoustics. It regularly hosts well-attended events organised by HamburgMusik gGmbH. Today, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie is considered a “cultural monument for all” and visually contrasts with the neo-Gothic brick architecture of the neighbouring Speicherstadt.
