Few buildings are as characteristic of Hamburg’s cityscape as the Church of St. Michaelis, known worldwide as the Hamburg Michel. The baroque church not far from the harbour and the landing stages has an impressive nave with a total of five organs and offers a fabulous view from the 132-metre-high church tower. If the 452 steps to the viewing platform are too strenuous for you, you can use the lift on the first floor to enjoy the unique view of the Elbe and the rest of the harbour metropolis. With its 2,500 seats, the Hamburg Michel is the largest church in Hamburg and is considered one of the most beautiful places of worship in northern Germany.
