Extensive parks in the middle of Hanover

A very special highlight for nature lovers are the Herrenhäuser Gardens in Hanover. The extensive grounds include the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten. The historical centrepiece of the Herrenhäuser Gardens is the Great Garden, one of the most important Baroque gardens in Europe. While the Berggarten, for which a fee is charged, is a botanical garden with a large aquarium, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten are laid out in the style of English landscape gardens and are freely accessible. An International Fireworks Competition is held every year in the Great Garden, where pyrotechnicians from all over the world compete against each other. In May the Herrenhausen Gardens host the annual KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen with international artists.
