The ruins of Helfenstein Castle are located on a ridge above Geislingen an der Steige and can be reached by visitors via a newly built bridge. The extensive castle complex was built around the year 1100 and is only preserved in parts today. Helfenstein Castle originally consisted of three rings, which housed the core castle, the rest of the castle and farm buildings. These rondels are still recognisable or have been partially restored. The defence wall, the former entrance to the castle via a gate in the south of the complex and the entrance to the rainwater cistern have also been rebuilt. After exploring the winding complex, visitors can take a break in the restaurant in the observation tower.
