The Fischmarkt Limburg is one of the city’s oldest squares and a prominent landmark in the historic old town. Dating back to the 13th century, it originally served as the trading center for Limburg’s wool weavers. The name “Fischmarkt” derives from the Middle High German “Fismart,” meaning “thread market.” It was only later that fish were sold here, giving the square its current name.

Surrounded by lovingly restored half-timbered houses from the 14th century, the Fischmarkt Limburg offers a medieval ambiance that transports visitors back in time. The narrow alleys and characteristic buildings make it a popular photo spot and invite guests to linger.

Today, the Fischmarkt Limburg is not only a historical site but also a vibrant meeting place with cafés and restaurants offering regional specialties. As a significant landmark of the city, it is a must-visit for anyone wishing to experience Limburg’s history and charm.
