A landmark of the city of Lüneburg is the historic water tower, which is a walk-in monument and offers a fantastic view of the city and surrounding area. In addition to informative guided tours and changing exhibitions, the attractions at Lüneburg’s water tower include its own registry office above the roofs of the city. The tower is also popular as a location for cultural events, conferences or celebrations. After the water tower served the city’s water supply from 1907 to 1985, it was listed as a historical monument and acquired by a support association in 1998 for the symbolic value of one German mark. After extensive renovation, the tower was opened to the public in 2000.
