The Nürnberg Schuldturm is a striking medieval tower and one of the notable landmarks in the old town of Nuremberg. Built in 1323 as part of the city’s fortifications on the island of Schütt, the tower later served a different purpose – it became a prison for debtors who were unable to repay what they owed, which gave it its present name.

Over the centuries, the Nürnberg Schuldturm underwent several transformations. Although heavily damaged during World War II, it was carefully reconstructed in the postwar years. Today, the tower is part of Nuremberg’s “Historic Mile” and offers visitors a vivid glimpse into the city’s rich history.

Located directly by the river Pegnitz, the Nürnberg Schuldturm is not only an architectural gem but also a culinary destination. The ground floor houses a restaurant with a beer garden that serves regional dishes. As a historical sight and place of memory, the tower remains a popular stop on walking tours through Nuremberg.
