The old town of Oberammergau is a real tourist magnet. This is not only because the town is famous worldwide as the venue for the Passion Festival. The historic buildings with their impressive Lüftl paintings, the numerous examples of handicrafts and the down-to-earth and warm hospitality also make the town something very special. If you are interested in carving, Oberammergau also has a number of providers and its own carving school. But the undisputed highlight for both locals and visitors is the Oberammergau Passion Festival, which has been held here every ten years since 1634. At the last festival, about 2,500 of the approximately 5,300 residents were in action.
