Anyone who makes a side trip to Potsdam can’t miss Park Sanssouci. Something special here is the picturesque Chinese House, built between 1755 and 1764 by Johann Gottfried Büring according to the designs of Frederick the Great. Due to its elaborate design with ornate paintings and monkeys covered in gold leaf in the stucco of the structure, it is certainly one of the eye-catchers in the magnificent Sanssouci Park. The special feature of the Chinese House is the mixture of East Asian architectural form and ornamental style elements of the Rococo period as well as the unusual ground plan in the form of a cloverleaf. The idyllic garden pavilion is open from May to October and can be visited.
