St Lawrence’s Church in Travemünde is not a classic fisherman’s church as is often found on the Baltic Sea. However, over the centuries it has become the religious centre of the communities around Travemünde. Where a previous building had stood since around 1235, the Travemünde St Lawrence Church was built in 1556 in the late Gothic style. The brick church with its long nave, baroque altar and painted beamed ceiling is also popular with tourists and has served as a meeting place for those seeking peace, prayer or worship for around 800 years. Due to the excellent acoustics, concerts are also regularly held here.
