Turquoise lake with mountain view

At the edge of the Karwendel between the towns of Kochel and Wallgau is the picturesque Walchensee. At the popular bathing lake you can pursue numerous leisure activities such as cycling, hiking, surfing, sailing or kiting. A special feature is the color of the Walchensee. The water is turquoise and, together with the mountain panorama, creates a unique atmosphere. The color is due to the water of the Isar river. Actually, the water coming from the mountains is crystal clear. But the added water of the Isar brings many lime particles from the Karwendel, which reflect at a certain sunlight and result in the turquoise water. A natural phenomenon not to be missed!
