Exactly when the Catholic Church of St. Martin in Wangen im Allgäu was built is not known. It is assumed that it was built in the eighth century. However, it is certain that the parish church is one of the oldest architectural monuments in the town. Over the centuries, it was frequently rebuilt and extended. In the Hohenstaufen period, the tower of the church and the eastern gable wall of the nave were built in the Romanesque style. The Gothic choir dates from 1386. Somewhat later in the 15th century, the naves and the Gothic part of the tower with the pointed windows were added. This can be seen from the date 1468 on the west portal.
