In the past, members of the electoral family such as Ottheinrich, Johann Wilhelm, his wife Anna Maria Luisa Medici and Elisabeth Auguste regularly resided here – today, citizens come and go in Weinheim Castle. Currently, the historic building is home to the town hall and the municipal administration of the city of Weinheim. What is remarkable about the impressive building is that it dates from different eras. From the construction around the year 1400, the passage of the upper town tower is still preserved. This was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. Then, in the second half of the 19th century, the Berckheim family rebuilt another part of the castle with the neo-Gothic tower built in 1868.
