It doesn’t always have to be a big city. If you are looking for ideas for a city trip through Germany, you should definitely not forget the tranquil town of Meersburg on Lake Constance. The town is divided into the lower town and the upper town with its numerous historical sights. These include Meersburg Castle, which was built at the beginning …
… was built in the 18th century as the seat of the prince-bishops of Constance. Particularly worth seeing here are the magnificent interior, the imposing staircase and the Dagobert Tower with its unique view and fascinating information about the persecution of witches. You can take a short break in the artistically designed pleasure garden or in one of the numerous cafés or restaurants on Schlossplatz. Major events such as the International Palace Concerts are regularly held here. Very close to Meersburg New Palace is the time-honoured castle, which is not only the region’s landmark but also gave the town its name. In the medieval castle, you can visit over 30 historically furnished rooms such as the old castle kitchen, the knights’ hall, the stables and the living quarters of the famous poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. After so much sightseeing, you can relax a little on the picturesque Meersburg lakeside promenade. Here you can take a wonderful stroll along the shore or sit in one of the many cafés and enjoy the view across Lake Constance to the Swiss shore opposite. From the promenade, you can also set off on the famous Lake Constance circular route from Unteruhldingen via Meersburg to Hagnau. A route that is popular with hikers and cyclists alike. The perfect place for a longer break is the Meersburg thermal baths, which are just a few minutes’ walk from the old town. Beautifully situated amidst vineyards, you will find a wellness oasis with seven different saunas and steam baths, indoor and outdoor pools, a hammam, relaxation rooms and a wide range of massages. The idyllic garden with a view of Lake Constance and the Swiss Alps also invites you to relax.
