The Hessian cultural asset Alsbach Castle is an excursion destination for the whole family. On a hill above the village of Alsbach, the castle – at that time still called Burg Bickenbach – was probably built around the year 1235 by Gottfried I von Bickenbach. At that time, however, the castle was not used as the ancestral seat of the noble family of the Lords of Bickenbach. This was initially in a tower castle on the Weilerhügel. Subsequently, the von Bickenbachs moved their residence to Alsbach Castle, which they used until 1664. In the following 200 years, the building deteriorated more and more, so that the ruins were used by the population as a quarry.
