Would you like to follow in Wallenstein’s footsteps? Then you must come to Altdorf, a tranquil small town in Middle Franconia (pop. approx. 25,000), which lies approx. 25 km south-east of Nuremberg surrounded by a beautiful low mountain landscape. Beautiful, historic buildings as well as town gates at both ends line a small market square where you can sit comfortably and enjoy the atmosphere. Altdorf was also a university town from 1623 to 1806, when Wallenstein, the commander of the 30 Years War, was a famous student. Since 1894, the Wallenstein Festival has been held every 3 years in his memory.
