The Berlin Cathedral is one of the most outstanding sightseeing destinations in Berlin. It is located on the Lustgarten – a park-like lawn where many visitors from all over the world stop to enjoy the atmosphere in summer – and on Museum Island, which is home to many other sights. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in the city and was built in the years 1894-1905, inspired by St Peter’s Basilica, by order of Kaiser Wilhelm II in the neo-Renaissance and neo-Baroque styles. The dome of the cathedral is 114 m high. The entire building is the largest Protestant church in Germany in terms of area and houses one of the most important dynastic burial places of the rulers of Europe.
