After a stroll through the picturesque old town of Weilburg, it is worth climbing to Weilburg Castle, which is situated on the top of a mountain spur. From the adjacent castle garden you have a wonderful view of Weilburg and the Lahn valley. This site is said to have been settled as early as 900, but it was not until between 1533 and 1572 that the Counts of Nassau-Weilburg built the four-winged castle here, which served as the residence of the noble family for 200 years. The complex of palace, outbuildings and palace and town church, which was lavishly restored in the Baroque period, offers interested visitors insights into the aristocratic residential culture and courtly life of the Counts Nassau-Weilburg.
