Cologne’s old town has a lot to offer visitors: Situated directly on the Rhine, you will find quaint breweries and beautiful shops as you stroll through the small streets. On the historic buildings you can admire the famous Schandmasken – stone grimaces with centimetre-long tusks around which many legends entwine. Also interesting is the “Kölner Pegel”, a kind of advertising pillar on which the current Rhine level is always displayed. A popular place to chill out is the Rheingarten between the Philharmonie and the Rhine. On the stone blocks of the Rheingarten sculpture there are numerous climbing and seating options that transform the square into an urban island in summer.
