Dresden Court Church - Catholic Cathedral with History

The Catholic Dresden Court Church, now officially called the Cathedral of Ss. Trinitatis, was built in the Baroque style under Elector Friedrich August II of Saxony from 1739 to 1755. In 1980, due to the transfer of the bishop’s seat from Bautzen to Dresden, the church became the cathedral of the diocese of Dresden-Meissen as well as the city parish church of Dresden. As it was the official court church in the times of the royal court, the Dresden Court Church is connected to the Residence Palace via Chiaverigasse. The façade and the balustrades with a total of 78 statues of saints designed by the Italian sculptor Lorenzo Mattielli and the Dresden sculptors Paul and Jakob Mayer are an eye-catcher.
