Off to the green lung of the city

The Düsseldorf Hofgarten is located in the middle of the city centre of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital and has a total area of 27.73 hectares and large meadow areas. The central park in Düsseldorf is very popular with both locals and tourists as a place of recreation, offers a welcome break from the city’s street noise and, with its lush trees and green meadows, is very significant for the inner-city climate. This is also where the nickname “green lung” comes from, which Düsseldorf’s Hofgarten has long borne. Since the oldest parts were laid out as early as 1769, the park with its numerous historical monuments and modern sculptures is considered the first German public garden.
