From Freiburg’s Castle Hill, cyclists, day trippers and also Freiburg residents can enjoy the unique view of the old town. Those who want to go a little higher can climb the castle tower. The name Castle Hill probably comes from the Burghalden Castle, which was built on the Castle Hill about 1,000 years ago by the Swabian princely family of the Zähringers. The Counts of Freiburg and the Habsburgs subsequently lived here. Today, only ruins of the castle can be seen. Visitors can explore the “Castle Hill Experience” via four themed trails. At the end of July, the Castle Hill Festival takes place on the Castle Hill with live music and DJs on five different stages.
