Tourist destination with numerous sights

Although there is evidence that Görlitz was already settled in the Bronze Age, it was first mentioned in a document in 1071. Due to its advantageous location on two trade routes, the city flourished as a long-distance trading settlement in the 12th century. Today, the historic old town with its many late Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance buildings attracts tourists from all over the world. On a guided tour of the town, you can admire the many listed buildings from the 13th century, which are associated with hundreds of old legends. Besides the Old Town Hall, the fortifications with the city wall, Kaisertrutz and Zwinger are also worth seeing. Obermarkt and Untermarkt used to be important trading places and are now the centre of urban life.
