The cradle of German democracy

There is no place in Germany that is as associated with German and European democratic history as Hambach Castle. Above the Palatinate Forest lies the famous excursion destination, which is not considered the cradle of German democracy for nothing. On 27 May 1832, almost 30,000 people gathered around the castle ruins to demand national unity, freedom and popular sovereignty. This festival was the starting point for the German and European democracy movement. Interested visitors will find a permanent exhibition to take part in at Hambach Castle, a diverse cultural and educational programme for young and old, and a castle park where you can feel the spirit of German history.
